My Story
I grew up by the sea in Dungarvan, Co Waterford and moved to Cork at seventeen to study in UCC for a Degree in Arts and a Higher Diploma in Education. After a magical year teaching in Australia, I came back to Ireland where I spent a further six years teaching in CIT before moving to a career in radio.
I worked for 12 memorable years in Cork’s 96fm radio in sales, promotions and sales management and I have to say that radio was, and still is, one of the passions of my life.
During these years the idea of a novel was never too far away. But somehow, there never seemed to be the time or space to devote to writing. In my late 30s and with three kids in tow, I decided to set up Golden Apple Training – a sales and customer service consultancy. Life got busier and busier. My work took me all around Ireland and between family, voluntary work, my own business and home, there wasn’t a minute. It’s only in the last five or six years that I eventually carved out the time to sit down and start writing.
Long coming, comes at last!
As a child I loved stories. What child doesn’t? My mother was the best storyteller; she’d recall events and characters from her youth and the marvellous pictures she wove jumped around in my head before I’d even learned to read. Grimms Fairy tales, Hans Christian Andersen’s tales of derring-do, Enid Blyton, Greek mythology – they all fired my imagination as a child, and I think they sparked my dream to write my own stories.
I eventually found the story I really wanted to tell – it’s never too late - and now it’s out there and it’s a great thrill to be able to share it with readers. When you order my book, you can also have it signed
